L&T Engineering in Powai & Vadodara are responsible for all the engineering
activities pertaining to individual project under execution by Business Units of L&T. These
centers offer skills and expertise for undertaking residual process engineering and detailed engineering
activities. In addition to the above, it also supervise pre-commissioning and commissioning
activities, undertakes trouble-shooting and provides technical support to proposal engineering.
It is equipped with the latest engineering software such as Aspen Plus, HYSYS,
HTFS suite, FRI suite, STAAD-III, Caesar-II, CAE PIPE, Pipenet, Phoenics, Pvelite,
Codecalc2, ETAP/EDSA, Intools, ANSYS, NISA, CFX, etc. L&T Engineering at Mumbai has successfully
carried out modular design of thermal systems such as primary reformers & fired heaters
and also modular design of the world’s largest CYCLEMAX Continuous Catalyst
Regeneration (CCR) Unit using concurrent engineering techniques. In addition, it has
carried out design and detailed engineering of cryogenic storage systems for ethylene, LPG
and propylene; of cryogenic air separation plants and select process plants.
L&T follows the concept of Concurrent Detailed Engineering for the plant design
and engineering using the Intergraph 3D Plant Design System (PDS) software from Intergraph.
This package is used for developing a 3-dimensional model of the project encompassing all
related aspects including the layout, piping, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and civil
engineering disciplines. Some of the direct benefits derived from this 3D PDS system
include auto-extraction of piping isometrics from the 3-D CAD models, auto-extraction of
structural fabrication drawings through soft-wares such as X-Steel, checking of
interference between various elements of piping/ equipment / structural / instrumentation etc.
through the simulated ‘walk-throughs’ and so on. Most of the recent complex projects
executed by L&T are modeled on the PDS in order to derive the benefits stated above.
L&T Engineering has won the prestigious award from the Indian Chemical Manufacturers Association (ICMA)
for the year 1997 for excellence in Chemical Plant design and engineering. This award was
given for the design and engineering work related to design of different process plants
including Complex Projects and Modular Process Plants.

As a step toward strengthening the Engineering capabilities of the company, L&T
established two Joint Venture Engineering Companies namely, L&T - Chiyoda Limited (LTC)
for hydrocarbon process plants and L&T - Sargent & Lundy Limited (LTSL) for power
plants, both located at Vadodara. These joint venture engineering companies
offer skills and expertise for undertaking detailed and residual engineering across a
wide spectrum of industries.
L&T - Chiyoda Limited (LTC), is a joint venture company of L&T, Chiyoda
Corporation of Japan and Sumitomo Corporation of Japan. LTC provides complete range
of engineering services to both L&T and Chiyoda, for residual and detailed
engineering, procurement and commissioning assistance for the projects in
hydrocarbon sector.
L&T - Sargent & Lundy Limited (LTSL) is a joint venture engineering company, formed
in collaboration with Sargent & Lundy of USA, who is world leader & has more
than 100 years of experience in design of more than 700 power plants of various
configuration. LTSL offers high quality engineering services for power projects in India and
abroad.
Both these joint venture engineering companies are equipped with
the state-of-the-art hardware and software facilities operating in networking
environment, experienced engineering professionals and strong database to undertake
basic and detailed engineering assignments. These function as captive engineering
resource for the E&C Division. LTC and LTSL, backed up by their overseas parent
companies are operating as centers of engineering excellence.
