Fabrication Capabilities

At Powai & Hazira works we have the capability to fabricate, weld and heat-treat a wide variety of materials of thickness ranging from 2 mm to 250 mm for various applications.

Welding procedures and welders are qualified in accordance with major international codes like ASME, AD Merckblatter, BS, IBR, etc. to various agencies like Lloyds, EIL, BV and others.

i) Powai Works
Fabrication and machining workshops have a total manufacturing area of 37,500 sq.m. They are organized as Heavy, Medium and Light Fabrication Shops, supported by well equipped machine shop, design, planning, procurement cells manufacturing plant and equipment to suit various sizes of the equipment.

Polypropylene reactor ready for despatch from L&T's Powai workshop Equipped with modern facilities for plate preparation, metal forming, welding, heat treatment, machining and dust free enclosures, these shops can manufacture equipment involving thickness upto 160 mm in monoblock construction. Large equipment sections weighing over 100 tons could be handled. Ultra-high pressure vessels and heat exchangers of multi-wall construction are also manufactured by L&T. Fabrication shops are well equipped with sophisticated facilities for fabrication, machining, handling and quality control. Over 1000 highly trained and skilled craftsmen, including 200 qualified welders, form the core strength of these workshops.

ii) Hazira Works
Modular Fabrication Yard
L&T's philosophy of construction incorporates maximum extent of pre-fabrication of the system in the form of modules.

Goliath crane at Hazira works, Capacity:450 MT L&T's manufacturing and fabrication facilities include a well-equipped Modular Fabrication Yard at Hazira, on the western coast of India. This yard is equipped with load-out facilities with a large Waterfront having a direct access to the Arabian Sea. Ultra-heavy and Over-dimensional modules and consignments are routinely manufactured and shipped from here in single piece to worldwide destinations. Typical shipping time from this facility to destinations in the Middle East is of the order of only about a week which makes this facility ideally suited for undertaking jobs for these regions.

The largest single module manufactured and dispatched in single piece from our Modular Fabrication Yard as above was the 1800 MT Process Platform for Tapti Gas Field off Gujarat coast in the Arabian Sea for the project of M/s Enron, USA.

The MFY Wharf & Jetty load-out capacity is 5700 MT, single piece.
Many of the critical equipment required for projects executed by us are manufactured within our own workshops at Powai (Mumbai), Hazira, Kansbahal, Vadodara and Chennai. A separate section covers features of our Modular Fabrication Yard as above as well these Heavy Manufacturing workshops.

iii) Kansbahal
Kansbahal Works is located near Rourkela(Orissa), is state’s largest heavy engineering unit with facilities of a foundary which is designed to manufacture quality wear and abrasion resistant castings for cement plants and thermal power stations. It manufactures a range of steel, iron and alloy iron including spheroidised graphite iron castings as well as paper drying cylinders in vertical pits up to 2000 mm dia and 7500 mm length.

Machine shop at Kansbahal Works Approved by Lloyds Register of hipping, London, for manufacture of various grades of ferrous castings, the foundary can manufacture a single piece casting of maximum 14t in steel, 22t in cast iron and 18t in spherodized graphite iron.

The facrication shop has a built-up area of 9525 sq.m and can handle a single unit of maximum 100t.
