An integrated computer based project control is employed to monitor the three essential
parameters of the project viz. Time, cost & quality on a day-to-day basis. E&C
Division has already implemented Enterprise-wide Resource Planning (ERP) package –
SAP / R3 in several Strategic Business Units, which integrates all project management
related activities in order to ensure flexibility, speed, accuracy & reliability by providing
streamlined operations.
The E&C Division has state-of-art communications network set up for speedy
in-house and out-house communications. All computer resources available with the
Business units are inter-linked with each other to form a LOCAL AREA NETWORK.
Our Design & Project offices in Mumbai and Baroda are linked to our regional & branch
offices, our workshops, ECC’s offices in Chennai and Mumbai through LNTNET as well
as to project sites through VSATs thus achieving Virtual Single Office Operation through
latest communication facilities. The communication network of the E&C Division at
Mumbai is supported by 155 MBPS ATM backbone on fibre optic Campus Area Network and
at Vadodara by 100 MBPS Campus Fibre Optic Backbone and high speed wireless line.
LNTNET uses TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) / TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access),
SCPC (Single Carrier per Channel), PAMA (Permanently Assigned Multiple Access)/
DAMA (Demand Assigned Multiple Access) techniques. Remote VSATs use TDMA to access
the capacity of one or more in-routes for transmitting data to the hub. Each in-route
is shared by multiple remote sites. With TDMA the in-route is divided into time slots
to be allocated to each remote VSAT in real time according to demand. The advantage is
that each site can have access up to the full bandwidth on demand; after the transmission
is complete this bandwidth is released for use by other VSAT sites.
Users on LNTNET have E-mail / LAN Faxing, Intranet browsing and select Internet browsing
facilities from their respective desks. Over and above this, we are connected to
IBM main frame through a dedicated SDLC (Synchronous Data Link Control) link.
The E&C Division is equipped with state-of-the-art computer facilities and engineering/
application software. The project offices have more than 60 servers which includes ERP & CD
servers, database servers and workstations, over 1100 PCs, 30 scanners, and 165
printers and plotters.
The application software includes MSOffice, Oracle, MS Access, Power Builder,
Developer 2000, Tally, FoxPro, Lotus Notes, GroupWise, etc.
